My Journey
Welcome to Healing Space PT. I'm Mehreen Akhtar, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner passionate about helping you achieve optimal movement, function, and well-being.
My journey in physical therapy began at St. Joseph's University, where I earned both my Bachelor's degree and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. For over a decade, I've dedicated my practice to helping patients overcome movement challenges and reclaim their bodies—particularly in areas where traditional physical therapy approaches may have fallen short.
My Approach
My practice is built on a foundation of evidence-based care combined with personalized attention. I believe that healing happens best when we take the time to truly understand each person's unique needs and experiences. This means:
-
Listening carefully to your story and concerns
-
Performing thorough evaluations to identify the true source of your limitations
-
Creating individualized treatment plans that evolve as you progress
-
Empowering you with knowledge about your body and condition
-
Celebrating each milestone on your journey to recovery
As your physical therapist, I'm not just treating symptoms I'm partnering with you to help you understand your body and develop skills to manage your health for the long term.

Specialized Expertise
My specialized training allows me to offer expert care in several areas:
-
Pelvic Health Rehabilitation: As a Certified Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, I provide specialized care for conditions including pelvic pain, incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
-
Women's Health: My training as a Childbirth and Postpartum Doula through DONA International complements my physical therapy expertise, allowing me to provide comprehensive care through pregnancy, childbirth recovery, and beyond.
-
Advanced Pain Relief: For those who haven't found success with traditional approaches, I offer fresh perspectives and targeted techniques to address complex pain patterns and movement dysfunction.

Why I Love What I Do
The most rewarding part of my work is witnessing the transformation that happens when people reconnect with their bodies' potential. I find joy in being both an educator and cheerleader teaching you about how your body works while enthusiastically supporting you in achieving your goals.

I believe everyone deserves to move through life with confidence and comfort. At Healing Space PT, I'm committed to creating an environment where healing, learning, and growth can flourish. I look forward to being part of your journey to better movement and function.

Outside the Clinic
When I’m not supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum, and lifelong pelvic health, you’ll usually find me outdoors.
I love camping with my family, exploring national parks, and training for long-distance runs and marathons. These moments ground me, remind me to slow down, and help me bring even more compassion and energy to the work I do every day.
